Silver Valley Limestone: The Ultimate Modern Classic

Whether you are redesigning your driveway, laying a new patio, or building a dream outdoor kitchen, World Wide Stone’s Antique Black is the ultimate choice. This isn’t just a stone for one project—it is a universal solution that brings a bold, high-end look to every inch of your property.

A Color with Deep Soul The color is a rich, smoky charcoal that transforms into a deep “midnight” black when sealed. It provides a stunning, modern contrast against green grass, wood fencing, or white house siding. Because it’s natural stone from World Wide Stone, it has a depth and character that man-made materials just can’t copy.

A Finish Like No Other (Only at World Wide Stone!) You won’t find this anywhere else on the market. We’ve developed a signature Brushed Finish that completely changes the game:

  • Naturally Clean Tones: The light palette makes small backyards feel much larger and gives front entryways a crisp, high-end look that never goes out of style.
  • The “Salt and Pepper” Effect: It has a gorgeous natural depth that hides dust and footprints perfectly, keeping your property looking “just cleaned” even between washes.
  • Stays Cool: :Because the color is so light, it reflects the heat. It stays much cooler under the summer sun, making it the perfect surface for bare feet and pets.

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Stone Curbs

What are stone curbs used for?

Natural stone curbs are used to define and contain the edges of driveways, walkways, patios, garden beds, and other outdoor surfaces. They prevent surface material – gravel, pavers, soil – from spreading laterally beyond the intended boundary, direct drainage away from planted areas, and give the overall hardscape a clean, structured perimeter. They’re used across residential and commercial landscaping applications throughout Ontario and Canada.

Our standard stone curbs are 6″ wide and 48″ long, available in two thickness options – 150mm and 175mm. The 48″ length allows efficient coverage of long runs with minimal joints. If your project requires dimensions outside this range, contact our team to discuss available options.

Both thicknesses provide solid performance for standard kerbing applications. The 175mm thickness offers additional depth below the finished surface level, making it more appropriate for applications where the curb needs to resist greater lateral soil pressure – such as raised garden beds, deep gravel driveways, or sloped sites where ground movement is a factor. For standard flat driveway and walkway edging, 150mm is typically sufficient.

We supply stone curbs in three colour ranges: Limestone, Sandstone, and Granite. Each offers a distinct natural tone – Limestone for cool, neutral greys; Sandstone for warm, earthy tones; and Granite for richer, more varied colour with natural mineral movement. Visit our Caledon Village showroom to view all three options in person, or browse our colours page for reference.

Stone curbs are set in a prepared trench along the perimeter of the surface being edged. A compacted gravel base is laid first, followed by a mortar bed on which the curbs are set to the correct height and alignment. The back of each curb is then haunched with concrete or mortar to lock it in position and resist lateral movement. Joints between curb pieces should be pointed with mortar and sealed. For driveway applications, professional installation by a qualified landscaping contractor or mason is strongly recommended.

Yes. This is one of the primary reasons natural stone is specified over concrete for outdoor curbing in Ontario. Dense natural stone at 150mm to 175mm thickness handles freeze-thaw cycling without cracking, heaving, or surface degradation. Concrete curbing – particularly thinner sections – is significantly more vulnerable to frost damage over time, especially in areas exposed to road salt during winter.

Absolutely. Driveway edging is one of the most common applications for our natural stone curbs. The 175mm thickness option is particularly well suited to driveway perimeters where the curb needs to withstand the lateral force of vehicles driving close to the edge. Pair your driveway curbing with natural stone pavers for the driveway surface and natural stone pier caps at the entrance pillars for a fully finished driveway build.

Natural stone outperforms both in almost every long-term measure. Plastic edging shifts, fades, and eventually cracks under UV exposure and frost. Concrete edging is prone to cracking under freeze-thaw pressure, staining from road salt, and surface deterioration over time. Natural stone holds its structural integrity and its appearance through decades of exterior use. The upfront cost is higher, but the total cost over a ten to twenty year period – accounting for replacements and repairs – is almost always lower with natural stone.

Yes. We supply stone curbs in bulk quantities for commercial landscaping, multi-unit residential, municipal, and institutional projects across Ontario. Contact our team with your project scope, required quantities, and timeline and we’ll advise on stock availability, lead times, and volume pricing.

Sealing is not structurally required. Natural stone curbs perform reliably unsealed across all exterior conditions. Some contractors and homeowners choose to apply a penetrating stone sealer to reduce staining from oil, organic matter, or road salt – particularly on driveway applications. If you choose to seal, use a breathable exterior-rated penetrating sealer appropriate for the specific stone type. Our team can advise when you place your order.
