Our pier caps are cut from real natural stone – not cast concrete, not synthetic composite. That means every cap carries natural colour variation, genuine texture, and the kind of weight and presence that manufactured materials simply can’t replicate. See how they look installed across real residential and commercial projects.
Available in two standard sizes (24″×24″ and 30″×30″), three finishes (Natural, Flamed, and Sandblasted), and nine colours ranging from Ivory and Beige to Imperial Black and Kota Black – there’s an option for every exterior design, from traditional to contemporary.
If you’re also finishing a driveway or pathway at the same entrance, pair your pier caps with our natural stone pavers for a cohesive result.

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Stone Pier Caps
What size pier cap do I need?
We supply two standard sizes – 24″×24″ and 30″×30″. The right size depends on the dimensions of your pillar or post. As a general rule, the cap should slightly overhang the pillar on all sides to allow water to shed away from the structure. If your pillar dimensions fall outside our standard sizes, contact our team to discuss your options.
Can natural stone pier caps handle Ontario winters?
Yes. Natural stone is one of the most freeze-thaw resistant capping materials available. Our pier caps are 3 inches thick, which gives them the density needed to handle repeated temperature cycling without cracking or spalling. This is one of the main reasons contractors in Ontario and across Canada specify natural stone over concrete alternatives for exterior applications.
What's the difference between a flamed and sandblasted finish?
Both finishes create a textured, non-polished surface – but through different processes. Flamed finish uses intense heat to open the stone’s surface, producing a coarser, more dramatic texture. Sandblasted finish uses abrasive blasting to create a more uniform, matte result. Flamed tends to suit traditional and rustic aesthetics; sandblasted works well with clean, modern designs.
Are these pier caps suitable for gate pillars and fence posts?
Absolutely. Gate pillar caps and fence post caps are among the most common applications for this product. They protect the top of the structure from water ingress, add visual weight and presence to the entrance, and significantly improve curb appeal. We supply to both residential homeowners and contractors working on larger gated entry projects across Ontario.
How do I install a natural stone pier cap?
Most pier caps are set in mortar directly onto the top of the pillar. The cap should be bedded level, with a slight overhang on all sides and a mortar joint that is sealed to prevent water entry. We recommend installation by a qualified mason or landscaping contractor, particularly for structural or load-bearing pillars. We’re happy to advise on installation considerations when you place your order.
Do the colours vary between individual caps?
Natural stone always carries some degree of colour variation – that’s part of what makes it genuinely natural. Within a single colour range, you may see subtle shifts in tone and veining between individual pieces. This is a feature of natural quarried stone, not a flaw. If you’re ordering for a larger project, we recommend ordering your full quantity at once to ensure batch consistency.
Can I order custom sizes for stone pier caps?
Our standard sizes are 24″×24″ and 30″×30″. For non-standard pillar dimensions, reach out to our team directly. We can advise on the closest available option or discuss custom cutting depending on your project requirements.
How long do natural stone pier caps last?
When properly installed, natural stone pier caps can last several decades – often outlasting the pillars they sit on. Unlike concrete caps that spall or manufactured caps that chip and fade, natural stone holds its structural integrity and colour character over time. It’s a one-time investment for most homeowners and a reliable long-term specification for contractors.
What's the difference between a pier cap and a coping stone?
A pier cap sits on top of a standalone pillar or post – its job is to crown and protect a vertical structure. A coping stone runs along the top edge of a continuous wall, providing protection and a finished look across a horizontal surface. Both serve a protective and decorative purpose, but they’re designed for different structures. If you’re finishing a boundary wall rather than individual pillars, coping is what you need.
Is natural stone heavier than concrete pier caps - does that affect installation?
Natural stone pier caps are dense and solid, which is part of what makes them durable. They are generally comparable in weight to quality concrete caps, sometimes slightly heavier depending on the stone type. This weight works in their favour – it means they sit firmly once mortared and aren’t vulnerable to shifting in high-wind conditions. Any experienced mason or landscaping contractor will be comfortable handling and setting them.
