Frequently Asked Questions About Natural River Pebbles
What are natural river pebbles used for?
Natural river pebbles are used across landscaping, gardening, and construction for a wide range of applications — garden bed ground cover, pathways, water features, patio surfacing, decorative drainage channels, and interior feature walls. Their smooth, rounded shape and natural colour variation make them a popular choice for both residential and commercial projects across Ontario.
What sizes do your river pebbles come in?
Our standard river pebbles are available in 2″ to 4″. If your project requires a specific size outside this range, contact us to discuss custom supply options.
What colours are available?
We currently stock natural river pebbles in five colours: Beige, White, Forest Green, Forest Brown, and Black. Each colour is available in our standard size range. Visit our showroom in Caledon Village to view samples in person before ordering, or browse our colours page for a full overview.
Are natural river pebbles suitable for Canada's winters?
Yes. Natural river pebbles are highly suitable for Canadian climates. Their density and non-porous composition makes them resistant to freeze-thaw cycles — they won’t crack, swell, or shift with seasonal temperature changes the way concrete or softer stone materials can.
Do natural river pebbles require sealing or maintenance?
No sealing is required. Natural river pebbles are extremely low maintenance. Occasional rinsing to remove debris is generally all that’s needed. They don’t fade, crack under sun exposure, or require any annual treatment.
Can I buy river pebbles in bulk for a large landscaping project?
Yes. We supply river pebbles in bulk quantities suitable for residential and large-scale commercial landscaping projects. Contact us with your project details and we can advise on quantity, availability, and pricing.
Will the pebbles I receive look exactly like the photos?
As with all natural stone, some variation in colour, tone, and surface markings is expected — it’s part of what makes each stone genuinely unique. The photos on this page are a representative guide. We recommend visiting our Caledon Village showroom to view current stock before finalising your order.
Do you deliver river pebbles across Ontario?
Yes. Worldwide Stone and Landscape Supply delivers across Ontario. Contact us directly to confirm delivery availability for your location and to get an accurate delivery quote for your project.
How deep should river pebbles be laid for garden beds and pathways?
For decorative garden beds, a depth of 2″ to 3″ is generally sufficient to provide good ground cover and suppress weed growth. For pathways where foot traffic is expected, 3″ to 4″ gives better stability underfoot. Laying a weed membrane beneath the pebbles before installation is strongly recommended — it extends the clean appearance of the surface significantly and reduces long-term maintenance.
How do river pebbles compare to mulch or gravel for garden beds?
River pebbles outlast both significantly. Mulch breaks down and needs replacing every one to two seasons. Gravel can be angular and shift underfoot. Natural river pebbles hold their shape, don’t decompose, don’t blow away in wind, and maintain their colour and texture for years without any treatment. The upfront cost is higher but the long-term value — and the look — is considerably better.
